Questions about body waxing? Here are some answers on a delicate subject.
What’s the difference between eyebrow maintenance and an eyebrow design?
Eyebrow maintenance removes hair from above, below and between the eyebrows, but doesn’t alter the shape of your natural brow. An eyebrow design changes the shape of your brow to complement the shape of your face, so it takes a little more time.
What exactly is a Brazilian wax?
A Brazilian wax is the complete removal of the hair on the pubic region, the labia, and the buttock center strip. You can go completely bare or leave a small patch or strip.
What is The “Lovey” Bikini?
After giving more than a few Brazilians, we have learned that most ladies really want something in between a Brazilian and a traditional Bikini. Enter The Lovey, this is our in-between-ini! When you don’t want to go completely bare, choose The Lovey and decide what hair goes and what stays. This service includes the front and back—whatever you’re comfortable with. If you are looking to just leave a small patch of hair on the pubic mound (i.e. a landing strip or triangle)this would be considered a Brazilian wax.
Should my waxer wear gloves?
Absolutely. Even though wax is naturally antibacterial, gloves are used to make sure that you and the waxing technician stay protected. We make sure to wear nitrile and powder-free gloves for all services performed below the head.
How long does the hair have to be to get waxed?
We require that you have at least a 2-3 week hair growth. And for your first wax, the longer the better. This allows the wax to grab the hairs easily, if you can pull on the hair and it lifts the skin this is a good sign. If your hair is too short, you may have to reschedule, so err on the side of caution please!
What about double dipping?
We’re not talking about chips here. Double dipping a waxing stick is never practiced at SoLinda Waxing Oasis. To keep the waxing experience safe and sanitary, each stick is dipped into the wax one time and then disposed of.
How often should I get waxed?
The general rule is every four weeks, or when hair is between ¼- ½ inch long. Fewer than four weeks may mean hair is not long enough to wax. If you can pull on the hair and it lifts the skin this is a good sign. You can always consult one of our waxing technicians if there is any question.
Is there anything I should do between waxes?
Between waxes you should moisturize and exfoliate—especially if you are prone to ingrown hairs. If you get an in-grown hair that is close to the surface, try to get the hair to come through the skin by soaking it with a wet, hot towel and plucking the hair. We also offer a post-wax body kit to help exfoliate and avoid ingrown hairs.
Will I be perfectly smooth after my first wax?
It’s possible but not probable. Some clients are smooth as a baby’s bottom after their first experience. However, it is common that after the first 2 or 3 waxing’s you may feel a wee bit of stubble. This occurs most frequently with clients that have coarse, dark hair, and it is most common with leg waxings. The reason for stubble is that your hair grows on 3 different cycles, each lasting about 28 days. It takes a few services for your hairs to all grow out long enough to be grabbed entirely by the wax. When it does, it’s smooth sailing from there. Literally!
When should I not get a wax?
To make sure your skin stays healthy, you should avoid waxing if you have recently been exposed to the sun (naturally or in the tanning salon), will be exposed to the sun in the near future (24 – 36 hours), have just exercised (including swimming) or if you are using any medication internally or topically that increases the skin’s sensitivity—so, avoid waxing if you are using: Accutane, Retin-A, Alpha-Hydroxy-Acid, Resorcinol, Glycolic Acid or other kinds of chemical based peels.
What should I do right after I get a bikini area waxing?
To ensure the smoothest results, we prefer to use Jojoba oil with Lavender .Other tips: loose clothing, no exercise for 24 hours and be wary of hanky-panky right after waxing.
Will waxing make my hair grow back thicker?
Nope, this is a myth. In fact, if you become a regular waxer, you will notice that your hair will become finer over time.
Do you offer test patches?
Of course! Each client is different and we offer complimentary test patches so you can see how your skin reacts to the wax within a 24-hour period.
It’s that time of the month. Is waxing off-limits?
Nope. You can still schedule your waxing session, as long as you are wearing a tampon, and we will work around it. However, the best time to wax is mid-cycle—right around the time that ovulation occurs—to avoid discomfort.
Do you offer waxing services for men?
You betcha. We offer many services for men, from your eyebrows to toes. The only thing we won’t wax is men’s facial hair (with the exception of brows). In most cases, male facial hair is thick and coarse in nature and ripping it out by the follicle is painful and severely irritating to the skin.
